How to Cancel Slack
Need to cancel your Slack subscription? This guide will walk you through the cancellation process step-by-step. Whether you subscribed through Slack's website, we'll show you exactly how to cancel.
Note: After canceling, you'll retain access to Slack features until the end of your current billing period. Your workspace will then be downgraded to Free tier with limited message history (90 days) and file storage (5GB total). Only workspace owners and admins can cancel subscriptions.
Step 1: Sign in to Your Slack Workspace
Go to slack.com and sign in to your Slack workspace with your account credentials.
Step 2: Access Workspace Settings
Click on your workspace name in the top left corner, then select "Settings & administration" > "Workspace settings" from the dropdown menu.
Step 3: Go to Billing
In the Workspace settings page, click on "Billing" in the left sidebar. You'll need to be a workspace owner or admin to access this section.
Step 4: Find Your Subscription
Locate your current Slack plan (Pro, Business+, Enterprise, etc.). You'll see your plan details, billing information, and next billing date.
Step 5: Cancel Subscription
Click "Cancel subscription" or "Downgrade to Free". Slack will show you information about when your Pro access will end and what features you'll lose.
Step 6: Confirm Cancellation
Review the cancellation details carefully. Slack will warn you about losing message history beyond 90 days and other Pro features. If you want to proceed, click "Confirm cancellation" or "Cancel subscription" to finalize. You'll receive a confirmation email.
Troubleshooting
I can't find the Cancel button
- Make sure you're signed in as a workspace owner or admin (only owners/admins can cancel)
- Try accessing the billing page directly through workspace settings
- Look for "Billing" in the Settings & administration section
- If you're not an owner/admin, ask a workspace owner to cancel
- Clear your browser cache and cookies, then try again
I'm not a workspace owner
Only workspace owners and admins can cancel subscriptions. If you're not an owner, you'll need to:
- Ask a workspace owner to cancel the subscription
- Or have ownership transferred to you
I want to pause instead of cancel
Slack doesn't offer a pause option. However, you can cancel and reactivate anytime without losing your workspace or messages (within the 90-day free tier limit).
I'm being charged after cancellation
- Check your email for the cancellation confirmation
- Verify the cancellation date matches the end of your billing period
- Make sure you clicked "Cancel subscription" and confirmed
- Contact Slack Support if charges continue after the cancellation date
What happens to my message history?
After downgrading to Free tier:

- App integrations (limited to 10 in Free tier)
